Invitation – Inspire Integrated Assessment Standard Setting

We warmly extend invitations to members of the nursing community, previously assessed IENs, academic and research representatives, and subject matter experts.

The standard-setting exercise will be held in Vancouver the week of July 15 to July 19, 2024, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm daily. Interested parties are invited to complete a survey, and selections will be made based on their expertise and backgrounds to ensure diverse representation.

Thanks to the invaluable support of our stakeholders, the 2022 Inspire Competency Framework meeting paved the way for enriching our assessment content. Our journey began in January 2023 with content development, followed by pilot and field tests, culminating in the launch of our new bilingual triple track assessment, integrating CBA and SLA elements, in 2024.

The Standard Setting event offers a valuable opportunity to inform the process of establishing interpretive cut scores for our assessments. Inspire isn’t about passing or failing; it’s about delving into candidates’ nursing skills and applied knowledge to identify strengths and areas for growth, considering their educational and professional backgrounds, for tailored educational support.

The standard-setting exercise will encompass several key activities, including training participants on the standard-setting tools and exercise objectives, evaluating candidate performance levels, and supporting the establishment of cut scores that will then be validated with Inspire stakeholders.

To be eligible, standard-setting participants must be LPNs or RNs who meet the following criteria:

  • Possess up-to-date role registration with no outstanding complaints.
  • Be currently employed as an LPN or RN, depending on the represented role.
  • Demonstrate clinical nursing practice experience, including work with IENs and recent graduates from Canadian institutions, in the three years preceding the standard-setting exercise.
  • Possess knowledge of entry-level competencies corresponding to the represented role (LPN or RN).
  • Be available to participate in the in-person activity scheduled for July 15–19, 2024.
  • For IEN participants, have completed an Inspire assessment within the last two years, undergone transitional education, and obtained registration for the represented role in the standard-setting exercise.

As Inspire offers an integrated bilingual assessment, English and French participation is critical, and we encourage bilingual nurses to apply. At Inspire, we value diversity and inclusion and believe diverse perspectives and experiences bring both innovation and better outcomes to the work we do and the decisions we make. We welcome participation from nurses who reflect the communities we serve and encourage Indigenous Peoples and members of equity-seeking groups to apply.

  • Selected participants will be contacted by June 14, 2024, and our staff will coordinate accommodations and transportation arrangements with them. Additionally, participant expenses, including transportation, accommodations, and meals, will be covered by Inspire according to stipend guidelines.
